"For" is the name of the sculpture you can see in Vik ,south Iceland.This beautiful art work serves to pay tribute and symbolise the bond created by a thousand years of trading between Hull and Iceland .The other monument in HULL is called "Voyage "

The monument in Vik includes a basalt base but the figure is made of aluminum .

Sculptress Steinnun Thorarinsdottir said she was inspired by people who made their living on the sea, and the loved ones who waited on shore, longing for their return.

“Of all the art projects I have been involved with, this has been by far the most special and meaningful. It has been a privilege to work with Hull City Council, and I hope the monuments in Hull and Vik are a lasting tribute to the close relationship between our two communities.”

seal /Phoque

L'Islande est le pays des oiseaux , des baleines mais aussi des phoques ! On a eu la chance d'en voir mais d'un peu loin ,les photos ne rendent rien ,alors je préfère vous présenter mes amis de bois ,ils sont exposés devanr un minuscule musée qui est dédié aux phoques .

Iceland is the country of birds and whales but also seals .We were lucky to see them from afar however my photos are not good , so , I prefer to post these wooden sculptures ,exposed in front of a tiny museum dedicated to seals .

Inside : an old furniture

Petit meuble dans la chapelle ,le temps n'a pas l'air d'avoir eu prise sur lui ...ce n'est pas comme moi ;)

this old wooden furniture has not gotten worn with age, could i say the same for myself ;)

Outside and inside / Dehors et dedans

Cette toute petite chapelle se trouve au sud de l'Islande à Núpsstaður,l'endroit est tranquille et vaut vraiment le détour .En aout j'ai déjà posté une autre photo "old chapel " si vous voullez jeter un coup d'oeil !(désolée je ne sais pas mettre les liens ...)

We discovered this tiny chapel in the south of Iceland , in Núpsstaður , it's a very quiet place and wortwhile to discover .I posted another photo in august if you want to have a look to the previous post "old chapel"(sorry i don't know how to add a link ...)

A church was built at Núpsstaður in earliest Christian times, or at least sometime before 1200 AD, In the Catholic Period. The church was dedicated to St. Nicholas and there were few people in the parish at that time. In the year 1765 however, it was abolished as a parish church, but the building served as a chapel fbr the fanner and his people. After 1783, the building was reduced to the state of a storehouse. In 1930 the National Museum of Iceland took over the old house and in 1958-1960 gave it thorough reparation .(trekEarth site )

nature bath at Myvatn ( hot spring ) / source chaude

Northeastern part of the country -- one of the most volcanically and geothermally active parts of Iceland. Icelandic water is good for your skin, making it nice and smooth so we had to try it out a bath in this hot sulfur water...we stayed during 2 hours from 10 pm till nearly 12 pm (because of the closing time !Great experience ,the water is really hot and the temperature outside a bit cold ,but you don't feel cold when you go out the water (for a while )it s a good sensation !i loved it !

Une des régions les plus volcaniques du pays ,l'eau est réputée pour être bonne pour la peau ,alors on se devait de tester ..On est resté environ 2 heures ,de 22 h à presque minuit (apres c'était la fermeture )Génial ,super sensations ,gros contraste entre le dedans et le dehors ...mais au début on n' a pas vraiment froid quand on sort de l'eau ! J' ai adoré !

Whooper swans / Cygnes sauvages

Une surprise nous attendait le long des fjords de l'est , tout d'abord quelques oiseaux sur une petite plage puis déportant notre regard, la découverte de milliers de Cygnes sur la mer.,Un jeune Islandais qui nous accompagnait ,nous a dit ne jamais en avoir vu autant !

Excuse my fuzzy photo but the bird was far and my zoom camera not enough efficient ! But it was magic to find and observe it .Well done Olivier you got it ! .(click on the title for a link )

Pardon pour la photo floue mais l'oiseau était loin et mon Zoom pas assez performant ! Ce fut magique de le découvrir et de l'observer. Bravo Olivier tu as l'oeil !

I could give you all the informations about Gullfoss ,its width and its height ,but for that clink on the link.I just want to share with you what I felt this morning at 6 AM when I discovered the waterfall .I miss words ,but lets try ...wonder,amazement,stunning,spectacular,imposing and beyond a great emotion !It was a unforgettable magic moment ,the rainbow deeply planted in my heart ...(hope you can feel it in the picts...)
Je pourrais vous donner toutes les informations sur Gullfoss ,sa largeur et sa hauteur ,mais pour ça cliquer sur le lien.Je veux juste partager avec vous ce que j'ai ressenti ce matin là à 6 h du matin quand j'ai découvert la chute d'eau .Les mots me manquent mais essayons ...merveilleux,stupéfiant spectaculaire ,imposant,grandiose et au delà une grande émotion !Ce fut un moment magique inoubliable ,l'arc en ciel planté pronfondément dans mon coeur. (j'éspère que vous le sentirai en regardant les photos ...)

j'adore passer du temps dans les librairies ,feuilleter les livres ,découvrir de nouveaux auteurs ,et cerise sur le gâteau , c'est quand on nous propose , comme ici à Reykjavik un concert de harpe !

I love spending time in bookshops ,look through books ,discover new authors and listen to an unexpected harp musician like that day in Reykjavik ,it's great !
